Maxton Design Rear Splitter & Clip-on Diffuser Installation Instructions: Aggressive Rear Look Perfectly Fixed

A rear splitter in combination with a matching rear diffuser from Maxton Design gives the rear view of your vehicle true motorsport character. As these instructions are universal, the exact procedure may vary slightly in detail depending on the specific vehicle model (such as Audi RS or BMW M models). However, the basic principle for perfect grip at maximum speed always remains the same.

In these instructions, you will learn how to align the rear splitter symmetrically, fix it with double-sided adhesive tape, screw it down firmly, and properly install the optional clip-on diffuser upgrade.

🛠️ Tools & Preparation

Before installation, have all materials ready to work smoothly:

• Vehicle condition: The car must be absolutely clean and dry before installation.

• Tools: Cordless drill, appropriate drill bit, wrench/ratchet, fine marker, high-quality degreaser (e.g. isopropanol), lever tool for clips.

• Scope of delivery: Maxton Design rear splitter, mounting kit (screws, washers, nuts), double-sided special adhesive tape.

• Our recommendation: Use a lifting platform or stable vehicle jacks and definitely work in pairs.

🔧 Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Align symmetrically & clean bumper

1. Hold the rear splitter against the rear bumper and check the fit very carefully.

2. Align the component absolutely symmetrically to the center of the vehicle.

3. Mark the final position of the splitter on the bumper with an easily removable pen.

4. Very important for adhesion: Thoroughly clean and degrease the marked surface of the rear bumper to remove dirt and wax residues.

 

Step 2: Attach adhesive tape to the splitter

1. Peel off the outer protective film from the rear splitter.

2. Now thoroughly degrease and clean the adhesive edge of the splitter as well.

3. Apply the provided double-sided adhesive tape precisely along the upper edges of the central splitter part.

4. The Pro Tip: First, peel off only a small part of the protective film from the adhesive tape at the outer ends and fold these ends outwards. This allows you to make minimal adjustments to the part.

Step 3: Attach & Glue Splitter

1. Position the rear splitter on the bumper exactly at the mark made in Step 1.

2. Press the splitter lightly at first.

3. Now pull out the remaining protective film completely from the folded ends of the adhesive tape from Step 2.

4. Then press the splitter firmly and evenly against the bumper over its entire surface to ensure maximum contact with the adhesive tape.

Step 4: Secure Outer Ends (Wheel Arch Flushness)

Secure the two outer ends of the rear splitter to the bumper with screws.

• Attention to alignment: The outer edge of the rear splitter must be absolutely flush with the line of the rear wheel arch.

• The splitter must not protrude into the wheel housing or be recessed behind it visually.

Step 5: Drill Main Fastening Points

1. Mark three points on the rear splitter that are equidistant from each other.

2. Carefully drill through holes through the rear splitter and the bumper at these three marked points.

Step 6: Final Bolting

1. Insert the screws from the mounting kit into the three drilled holes.

2. Correct direction: The screw heads must point towards the ground (downwards), and the threads must point upwards towards the trunk.

From above/inside, place the washers and nuts onto the threads and tighten everything firmly.

Peel off the remaining protective film from the rear splitter. If you don't have a clip-on diffuser, you are already done!

🛠️ Additional Step: Clip-on Rear Diffuser Installation

If your set includes the optional clip-on diffuser element (e.g., item number 9-308-1-801), follow these steps:

1. Release diffuser: Carefully unclip the rear diffuser again after successfully installing the splitter. Use a prying tool to slightly lift the heads of the mounting clips until they can be easily removed from the holes.

2. Drill holes for clips: Now drill the final holes for the clips directly into the bumper. Use the existing original holes in the rear splitter and diffuser as a guide.

3. Clip in place: Return the rear diffuser to its final position on the rear splitter. Press the attachment clips firmly to permanently secure the diffuser. Done!
