Maxton Design Spoiler Cap Installation Guide: The Perfect Rear Spoiler Attachment in No Time

A spoiler cap (also known as a spoiler extension or rear spoiler extension) from Maxton Design is the ultimate finish for the rear of your vehicle. It creates a more distinctive tear-off edge and a sporty design. These components are mounted without drilling using an already attached, extremely strong double-sided special adhesive tape.

For the spoiler extension to hold rock-solid even beyond 250 km/h on the highway, absolutely residue-free preparation of the surface is essential. In this official guide, we show you what you need to pay attention to when applying it.

🛠️ Preparation & Important paint notes

Before you start bonding, make sure the following points are met:

  • Vehicle wash: The car must be thoroughly washed and absolutely dry before installation.

  • Removal: If your vehicle already has an original spoiler lip or cap installed from the factory, completely remove it beforehand and meticulously remove all old adhesive and tape residues.

  • Tools: High-quality masking tape, a tape measure/folding rule, a lint-free cloth and a strong degreaser (e.g. isopropanol / cleaning alcohol).

🔧 The Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Align precisely in the center

  1. Place the Maxton Spoiler Cap on the edge of your tailgate or roof spoiler as a trial.

  2. Align the cap exactly symmetrically in the middle of the flap using the tape measure.

  3. Important for fit: The edge of the spoiler cap must neither protrude beyond the outer edges of the tailgate (overhang) nor be visually set back behind it at the sides. It must be perfectly flush with the bodywork.

Step 2: Mark the outlines

Hold the aligned spoiler cap firmly in position and directly along its lower edge, tape a strip of masking tape onto the vehicle's paintwork. This line will serve as an irreplaceable template for the final application.

Step 3: Chemically prepare the paint (Pro-Tip)

Remove the spoiler cap again. Now follows the most important step for long-term high-speed stability:

  • Important for sealants: If your vehicle has paint protection film (PPF), a ceramic coating, or a fresh wax layer, this must be carefully removed in the adhesive area. The mounting adhesive tape requires direct contact with the clean car paint to develop its full adhesive strength.

  • Degreasing: Clean and degrease the marked adhesive area on the tailgate extremely thoroughly with isopropanol. No grease, dust or fingerprints must remain.

  • Gründliche Reinigung und Entfettung des Autolacks mit Isopropanol vor dem Aufkleben der Tuning-Spoilerkappe.

Step 4: Applying without bubbles, piece by piece

    1. The double-sided adhesive tape is located on the underside of the spoiler cap. At the outer ends, only peel off a short piece of the red protective film and fold these ends outwards.

    2. Now place the spoiler cap precisely along the line marked with masking tape on the tailgate.

    3. Press the spoiler cap firmly against the bumper edge.

    4. Now gradually and evenly pull out the remaining red protective film using the folded tabs, while simultaneously firmly pressing the spoiler cap against the vehicle's paintwork.

    5. Press the entire component firmly against the paintwork across its entire width again.

    6. Finally, peel off the outer protective film from the Maxton Design Spoiler Cap. Done!

Important Curing Time (Warranty Information): After installation, the vehicle must remain in an absolutely dry place for at least 24 hours (e.g., in a closed garage). The adhesive of the double-sided special tape needs this time to chemically cure completely and achieve maximum strength. During this time, avoid direct sunlight, moisture, and driving on the road!
